we al move in circles
During a 4 month internship at Ana Salazar atelier, one of the most important and iconic portuguese fashion designers, I participated in the concept and development of the Spring 2012 collection.
Here I present my reinterpretation of this collection, for which I developed a new concept with my own view.

Exploring Synesthesia [ Master's Degree Thesis project ].
Synesthesia is a neurologically-based condition in which the stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway: one of the five senses is stimulated, but two or more respond.
There are many many types of synesthesia, and the possible combinations and variations are numerous.
[ a number or letter are seen with a specific color, a word triggers the sensation of a texture, a flavour or a smell have a specific shape, among many others. ]
Synesthetic perceptions are immutable, distinct and generic - they do not change throughout life and are clear and simple. The perceptions have no meaning - they do not relate to personal experiences or memories. True neurological synesthesia is involuntary, automatic and cannot be suppressed. It is estimated that 1 in 23 persons are true synesthetes in any of its variants.
This investigation explores the phenomenon of synesthesia as a creative basis on Fashion Design. In fact, the true synesthetic perceptions of 4 case-studies were the only inspiration in the creation of this collection.
This project demonstrates the richness of synesthetic perceptions, senses, sensations and their associations as an input to a design project. Without seeking a narrative or an inspiring concept, theme or idea, the essential elements of Fashion Design were worked out with the inputs of synesthesia alone, in an experimentalist and very intense relationship with each of the elements, leading to further creativity and innovative design processes.
